Step-by-Step Australia PR Process

Step 1: Check Occupation Eligibility

Your occupation must be listed on Australia’s Skilled Occupation List. Examples:

  • Software Engineer
  • Accountant
  • Civil Engineer
  • Registered Nurse
  • Data Analyst
  • Chef

Official occupation lists are available on the Australian government migration website.

Step 2: Skills Assessment

You must obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant authority (e.g. ACS for IT, Engineers Australia, VETASSESS).

Documents generally required:

  • Degree certificates
  • Experience letters
  • Resume/CV
  • Passport

Step 3: English Language Test

You must prove English proficiency through approved tests:

  • IELTS
  • PTE Academic
  • TOEFL iBT

Step 4: Submit Expression of Interest (EOI)

Submit an EOI through SkillSelect. You provide:

Step 5: Receive ITA

If your profile ranks competitively, Australia issues an invitation based on occupation demand, score, quotas.

Step 6: Lodge Visa

Apply online, upload documents, and pay fees within 60 days. Includes passport, PCC, medicals.

Step 7: Medical & Character

Mandatory health examination and police clearance from all countries lived in.

Step 8: Visa Grant

Receive PR, live and work indefinitely, access healthcare, eligible for citizenship later.
